Can't get T540p to boot from DVD

Hi,

My new T540p came with Windows 8.1 pre-installed and three weeks in I've decided that it's simply unusable. I'm trying to ditch it for Ubuntu Linux but I can't get the machine to boot from my dvd drive. I went into the bios and moved (what I think is the) DVD drive to the top of the boot order list but it didn't have any affect. Here is my list as it stands right now.

1. ATAPI CD0 MATSHITADVD-RAM UJ8E2
2. Windows Boot Manager
3. USB CD
4. USB FDD
5. ATA HDD0 WDC WD10JPVX-08JC3T5
6. ATA HDD1
7. ATA HDD2
8. USB HDD
9. PIC LAN

Excluded from boot priority order
Other CD

But when I restart the PC it boots right into Windows. I should add that from windows explorer I can see the contents of the DVD so I know that the drive is good and also that I've used this boot disk in other machines so I know that it too is good.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here? Thanks in advance.

I had a similar issue on my S1. Have you disabled secure boot and UEFI in the BIOS? You need to switch to legacy mode before you can boot from different sources. You should be faced with the old BIOS screen instead of the new lenovo logo if everything is set correctly.

Check in the UEFI settings in BIOS that you can boot to BOTH W8 and Others (or similar).
Don't know the exact wording.

Thanks this did the trick!
