T430u faulty monitor

#1 Post by vcb003104 » Mon Sep 22, 2014 12:45 am

Hey guys,

So recently the monitor of my T430u is acting weird. The whole monitor would become white with some grey strips vertically positioned. If I wait long enough (around 30 seconds) or reposition the monitor, the problem will go away.

Pretty sure it is not normal. Might be a loose connector or a rusty wire or gpu fault or something?

Should I send it to lenovo for them to check it out?

^ Thats the link. Not sure if everyone can see

It turns normal if I leave it for around 30 sec. But I think that's because I was shaking my leg -> the desk was shaking -> so laptop was shaking slightly.

If I just casually adjust the lid back and forth when on, I can see the screen going like that for a second or so. But after adjusting it for a while it wont happen.

The external monitor will flicker uncontrollably sometimes

(not the same white screen on the monitor, its the screen will flicker and eventually the top of the screen will go in the middle and the task bar goes ontop of the 'top of the screen'. Its like the whole screen shifted vertically. will try and take a picture next time)

and I have to unplug and replug the displayport and it goes normal for a while. The HDMI connection doesn't have this problem though. I have also tried switching the monitors and the problem is only on the monitor hooked to the mini displayport.

So I took a video of the external monitor when its acting up.

This is when its acting up:

This is what it looks like when it stops flickering:

Sorry about my voice. I think I'm about to loose it soon.

This is a picture of what I was trying to describe:

The whole screen kinda shifts vertically down/ upwards.

Cheers,
Victor

Welcome to the forum.
If that machine is still under warranty, have it checked/repaired by Lenovo.
Hard to say if (1)the LCD cable, (2)the LCD, (3)the LED-board or (4)the GPU is failing.
My guesses only, in the above order.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
