As the title says, I'm wondering if anyone here knows when the new model in the T4XXs segment is due to be released. I'm planning to upgrade but would hate to get the T440s and have the next iteration come out shortly thereafter.

Broadwell U will be released on CES 2015. You can expect the T450s to be out in late January/February.

I thought the T450s would be launched by now. Anybody know if it will be launched this month?

My understanding is that it's already on sale in parts of EU, so North America can't be all that far behind.

What makes it worth waiting for, if you don't mind me asking. I'm in shopping mode to replace the T410s that has been with me since 2010...

There were a lot of complaints about the lack of "real" trackpoint buttons on last year's model. They're bringing them back for 2015. I love the trackpoint so for me it's worth the wait.

While there were people who were fine with the TrackPoint/Touchpad setup on *40 series, they must have been a significant minority for Lenovo to back-pedal and bring back the physical buttons.

The xx40 series Thinkpads have the lowest customer ratings in Lenovo's (and probably IBM's) history. A paltry 3.5 starts at most, and even 2.5 stars for the X240. This is quite a contrast to the xx30 series which had an average >= 4 stars. As you might of guessed, many of the complaints were about the trackpoint buttons, so Lenovo went back and put them on again. There also seems to be a slight quality decline (though I can't comment on this since I never used one), as well as soldered ram and more difficulty servicing parts.

That isn't true for the whole line though, only specific models. (Could be considered a negative point itself that servicing is very different within the same product line; commonality of maintenance parts & procedures is normally considered a feature of good business laptops.)

T450s - along with a few others - is now available on Lenovo's U.S. site...

And it may not be available in the USA, just like T440s with discrete graphics wasn't...

USB dock does not supply power to laptop and limits external monitors to 2048x1152 (according to manual at least).

My T450s arrived earlier this week. I'm really happy with it so far. I was worried that I wouldn't like the new keyboard, but I'm actually finding typing with it quite pleasant. I'm surprised to see that there are no longer lights to indicate if the wireless is on etc. (seems like a money saving move), but the computer feels solid.
