T430 does not boot - no POST - no beeps

#1 Post by javajones » Mon Jan 05, 2015 1:20 pm

Quite suddenly--after about year of perfect functioning--my T430 does not boot up. Before I had last powered it down (a few hours ago) it had a fully charged battery and was connected to a power supply. When I changed location, it did not boot up. The green light around the power button does not come on at all. I connected a new (genuine lenovo) AC adapter and as with the old there is little flicker of the battery light but it does not come on...

I tried all the usual steps: removed all the RAM, removed the battery, swopped in a different SSD... all with the same results - nothing!

What I want to know is: should I buy a new system board and swop it in?

Is it still under warranty?

Try removing all power sources and holding down the power button for about 20 seconds. I've seen that trick work before.
My "daily drivers":

Thanks, good idea, but unfortunately, it did not work. Also, the machine is NOT under warranty. Ideally, someone could tell me what else to check for before I buy a new system board... For example - is the port where the AC adapter plugs into something else to check - is it integrated into the system board?

DC-in port is soldered onto the mobo.

Try removing the CMOS battery and repeat the same procedure as before. Press and release the power button every few seconds.

So I added moved everything into the new motherboard and same problem! By process of elimination, it must be the CPU that was fried somehow! Painful thought... It was working... then it was not...

Sorry you are having trouble.

With no ram does your T430 do anything different at power up?

Y'up, nothing happens with both SODIMMs removed either. New CPU should arrive shortly; hope that it works ;)
