Welcome to thinkpads.com!
The following is for Windows 7. If you are using Windows 8, you may have to adapt. In order to use the middle button for scrolling you need to go into Control Panel/Mouse/UltraNav/Trackpoint settings. There should be a Choose Scrolling or Magnifying Glass function section with three options: Scrolling, Magnifying Glass and Neither. Select Neither and click OK. If you now right-click inside a long page, that scrolling cursor should appear. Move the trackpoint up or down to scroll the page. Clicking the left or center button will turn off scrolling.
