Is T450/T450s a good replacement for X220?
Re: Is T450/T450s a good replacement for X220?
The T450s is as good of a ThinkPad as any to replace the X220.
It's only slightly bigger and heavier. However, you may miss the old keyboard arrangement with the more traditional Delete/End/Home/Pg up/Pg dn and the much better TouchPoint device. Of course, you cannot even get these on the X230, let alone the X240 or X250.

Re: Is T450/T450s a good replacement for X220?
I am not complaining about the keyboard, other than missing dedicated F row (or dedicated volume buttons) I am happy with other changes, especially removing forward/back buttons from the directional pad, that's welcome change.mschaffer wrote:The T450s is as good of a ThinkPad as any to replace the X220.

If I can just get rid of this auto-brightness adjustment, I'll be much happier.
Trackpoint is visibly worse, it's nowhere near as sensitive it's as if I went from a high dpi mouse to low one and it likes to fly from point to point, and it lacks the fine touch my X220 had, also I may be imagining this but did the distance from J to trackpoint increase?
Hey, at least they brought back the 3 button trackpad.

Admit it, your T450s is a dud!
Re: Is T450/T450s a good replacement for X220?
And I need this great community's help to figure out why. (I wouldn't call it a dud, it feels like a racing horse held back by boulder on wheels or a Lamborghini trying to tow a trailer) It's weird, but let's keep that in that thread.RealBlackStuff wrote:Admit it, your T450s is a dud!

There are almost 40 different motherboards for the T450s alone!
Maybe I should have called it a Lemon, or it was assembled on the Monday morning after Chinese New Year (which lasts 23 days!).
Either way/name, I hope you'll get it sorted eventually.

Do you have any Crystal DiskMark benches for the drive in your T450 that you could post?

In my opinion, all of the current ThinkPad keyboards are on the border of dud status.RealBlackStuff wrote:Admit it, your T450s is a dud!

Here are some of the results from tests after different environments and after different periods of working on thinkpad.

Re: Is T450/T450s a good replacement for X220?
I am somewhat OK with the keyboard but unfortunately the trackpoint is really miserable compared to the trackpoint on my X220.mschaffer wrote:In my opinion, all of the current ThinkPad keyboards are on the border of dud status.RealBlackStuff wrote:Admit it, your T450s is a dud!
Otherwise, unless keyboard gets worse overtime, it's actually easier to type on this because it requires less pressure.

T450s with Windows 10 preloaded = stuck in setup loop. Is there any Lenovo QA department ?

Is it your expectation that the QA department will catch every possible cause of failure on every single unit? Or is there evidence that this particular failure is affecting a non-negligible number of devices?

Single unit, no. Currently it is two devices with similar issues in two weeks reported.dr_st wrote:Is it your expectation that the QA department will catch every possible cause of failure on every single unit?
