Replace HDD with SSD
Replace HDD with SSD
Hi,
I have a T530(500GB HDD+16GB mSATA, Win 7 Pro). I plan to replace the HDD with OCZ 240GB SSD. Questions are.
(1) Can I just take out the original HDD, put the OCA SSD on, and do a clean installation of Win 10 on OCZ SSD?
(2) If I do (1), in the future for whatever reason if I want to switch back to Win 7 Pro, can I just switch the HDD back?
(3) Do I need to do anything to mSATA? I heard the SSD I am going to install is faster than the small original 16GB mSATA? Will the small mSATA impact the performance if I leave it there? If yes, anyway to disable it?
Thanks.

(1) Yes.
(2) Yes. However, you may run into activation issues if you installed Windows 7 again and used the same COA, but since you will be installing Windows 10, this will not be a problem.

3) How is the mSATA currently being used? It should be able to continue performing the same as it does now.
Collection = T500 - R400 - X300 - X200 - T61 (14" WXGA+) - T61 (14.1" SXGA+) - T60 (15" SXGA+) - X40 - T43p - T43 - T42p - A30P - 600E
Re: Replace HDD with SSD
Can I know why I may run into activation issues? As my current plan is to run Win 10(testing version) on SSD, once the Win 10 RTM is available I do want to upgrade my existing Win 7 Pro to Win 10(for free). BTW, what is COA?
Thanks.
Thanks.

Thanks for the response. Can I know how I can figure out how mSATA is being used now? I really don't have idea.

Re: Replace HDD with SSD
Currently it serves as a cache drive. You should remove it once you switch to a full-blown SSD.yyuuxx wrote:Thanks for the response. Can I know how I can figure out how mSATA is being used now? I really don't have idea.
