T450 + Ultra Dock = no image

Hi,

I just bought the T450 with a thinkpad ultra dock 90W.

My extrnal monitor works fine with the display port on the T450.

When I connect it using the dock, there's a "new hardware" sound, windows recognizes a "general monitor" but no image on the external display.

Is there a solution?

Thank you!!

Welcome to the forum. :)

Did you try pressing Windows+P and transferring image to the second monitor manually?

Thank you! :-)

Yes, I did and that didn't impress him. My screen went black for a few seconds, the resolution dropped to 1024*768 but that's it.
I think windows knows there's a monitor attached but somehow there's no image.

I really appreciate your help as I really don't know what to do.

I don't know what to do, I am just guessing.

Did you try the other DisplayPort output on the Ultra Dock? There are 2.

I did try the other outputs and everything was the same.

I got a new replacement for the dock today (this time a basic dock), but the issue persists.
Windows sees the external monitor but there's no image.
So it wasn't the dock itself probably.

I don't get how it can see the monitor but display nothing.

Perhaps that T450 came with Windows 10, which is still notorious for bad/missing drivers?

Have you tried outputting from the display connectors on the laptops itself to see if the problem is present there as well?

I would almost chalk this up to a display driver issues. Download the latest version from the manufacturer's website (i.e. Intel or Nvidia if you have discrete) and not Lenovo's site. Un-install the previous version of the driver before installing the new version. I have seen this issue before on other laptops where the external displays did not correctly and the driver was at fault.
