T460s - A few questions

#1 Post by JohnD. » Tue Jan 05, 2016 5:50 am

Hi Everyone,

If I read on whats out there for the new T460s machine, it looks like there is no VGA port and Lenovo did away with the external battery, which both were on the T450s.

I was wondering if someone can confirm this info, since if so, then I would like to purchase a T450s sooner than later.

Thank you,
John

Both informations are true: https://www.thinkscopes.com/2016/01/03/ ... 460p-t560/

You could consider T460 if you want the expandable battery, however, as the other models, no more VGA.

A HDMI to VGA (or DVI-D) adapter can be had for a few Dollars, why make a fuss?

Hi Ibthink and RBS,

Thank you for responding. I did read that the T460s does not have a swappable battery. I would like that since I want the machine to last long on battery power. Also, I can get a T450s i5 for about $650 and a T450s i7 for $850 (my company has a special pricing with Lenovo).

Also, I guess I might loose an hdmi-to-vga cable. Right now I think there are a lot of devices that take a VGA port but with time that is changing I bet.

Now I did read a spec sheet from Lenovo that the X260 has approx. 21 hours of battery time. I know it will be less than the spec but I am kind of curious by how much.

Thanks again,
John

Note that the figures published in the PSREF say "to up xx hours" or "maximum battery life". My rule-of-thumb is to multiply by .66 and that should give you an approximate time if you are intermittently using the system for office tasks or browsing. Less time if you are running an optical drive or streaming media full-time. Last night I was using a T420 (9-cell) to rip some disk images and upload some files (wired ethernet, not wireless). After several hours I finally realized that I hadn't plugged in the AC adapter. I know I started with a full battery. Power Manager reported about 7 hours remaining, therefore I probably had about 9-10 hours total. PSREF says my Nvidia-equipped T420 goes up to 14.7 hours so my 2/3 figure is about right.

Hi Ray,

Thank you for the 0.66 number to multiply what Lenovo states in their specs. It gives me a good reference point. I still believe that the T450s, with its dual battery (esp. the 3 cell + 6 cell) will last longer then a T460s. Just my thought and I could be wrong for all I know.

Talk to you soon,
John

Buy 2, 3 or 4 adapters, still less than $10...

So, yet another iteration away from the traditional ThinkPad toward the mediocre.
Oh, well. What's next? Two row keyboards (with 0.5mm travel), no TrackPoint, and a single button for the TouchPad?
Do you think the T460s will ditch the drain holes like they already did in the x250?
