T530 does not recognize the 2nd hdd replacing the DVD
T530 does not recognize the 2nd hdd replacing the DVD
Hello, I have searched all 12 pages and could not find such a topic, therefore I will write a new one.
I have a T530 with a 240 GB SSD hdd with the OS and I want to add a 2nd hdd in the DVD location.
I bought this caddy http://www.amazon.com/ORICO-Laptop-Alum ... B00KBON2BO
and this hdd Hard disk notebook HGST Travelstar 7K1000 SATA-III 1TB 7200 RPM 2.5 inch
The DVD on T530 is working, I tested it. I also tested the caddy with another hdd , on another computer and it worked. I also inserted the hdd in an external hdd rack and connected it through USB to another computer, I formatted it and the hdd was also ok.
However, when inserting it in the ultrabay (dvd location) it is not recognized by T530 (neither when it was not formatted, nor after being formatted). I also followed these steps https://support.lenovo.com/ro/ro/documents/ht035471 but to no avail.
I updated the bios to 2.65, but it did not work either before or after the bios update. SATA is set to AHCI.
I have Windows 7 64 bit Professional. I am thinking about upgrading to Windows 10 as a last resort.
Please help!

Were you trying a hot swap or did you power down the system when installing the drive?
Have you tried telling windows to search for new hardware?
Does it show up as an unknown device in the device manager?

I did not try a hot-swap as I read about it, but I did not understood the sequence of steps exactly.MikalE wrote:Were you trying a hot swap or did you power down the system when installing the drive?

Yes, Windows searched for it and did not see it.
It does not show up as unknow device in the device manager.
Re: T530 does not recognize the 2nd hdd replacing the DVD
All that I can think of is that the caddy connector is not making contact with the internal socket on the board. It may not be compatible with the T530, regardless of what the ad copy says.

I installed Hotswap!, but it reads "No device.." - can I remove the caddy with the hdd, unplug the laptop, insert the caddy with the hdd and plug the laptop?MikalE wrote:All that I can think of is that the caddy connector is not making contact with the internal socket on the board. What Lenovo caddy should I buy, please?

Well, that's not good. Does the BIOS see it? Press F1 on initial boot to enter BIOS, check and report back.dara wrote:

At this point I'm inclined to agree with MikalE that there's something physically amiss there, but let's wait for the BIOS report...

Hi, I changed the caddy (which was working on an old MSI laptop) and now it works with the new caddy. It is not a Lenovo caddy. It's something from Hong Kong (which was available on some kind of national ebay). 12.7mm Universal SATA 2nd HDD SSD Hard Drive Caddy for CD/DVD-ROM Optical Bay PK http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-7mm-Univer ... Probably it was sata II and the previous one was sata III.
Maybe this helps someone.
