T430 Recovery Issue

#1 Post by jsims2 » Sat Feb 06, 2016 4:16 pm

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone has run into this situation and had any fixes or ideas to get around the issue. My hard drive crashed on my work laptop, so Lenovo sent me out a new hard drive and the recovery disks for my T430. Got the hard drive installed and onto the recovery. I follow the instructions, get through the two Operating System Recovery Disk (Windows 7 64-bit) as well as the first Applications and Drivers Recovery disk. Once prompted to insert the second Applications and Drivers Recovery Disk, it tells me I have the wrong DVD inserted. I tried the 3 other disks just for the heck of it, and they all get the wrong DVD error as well. Anyone have any ideas? I would hate to have to send my laptop in for re-imaging if there's a simple solution to get that second disk recognized and run. Thanks a ton!

Welcome to thinkpads.com!

I had somewhat of a similar issue recently but with a set for an X41t that I created myself a few years ago. The third CD was identified as being the wrong one. Thinking that I might have mislabeled them, I tried all of the remaining disks. None were what R&R was expecting. My fix? I ended up using another optical drive. It's possible that your set can't be read correctly with your current drive. You can either try swapping drives or copying the "bad" disk using another computer.

Thanks rkawakami!

Making a copy of the disk on another computer is a great idea, and easy enough to test. I will give that a shot...

I got the same message during a recovery of my new T430s with Win 7 disks from my old X301.
After I opened and closed the optical drive a couple of times it finally accepted the disk and completed the recovery.

I had to manually install the network driver and Lenovo System Update before I was able to have the T430s running properly, as a lot of drivers were missing...
Must try to get hold of original Win 7 recovery disks for T430s.
(I have also tried recovery disks with Win 8 from a newer X240, but they would not activate Windows since my T430s was originally sold with Win 7 Pro).

My T430 recovery disks have an error - it asks to insert recovery disk (one or two - cant remember which) again when it is not needed. I just continue with the same disk and it recovers just fine. Took me a couple of years to figure out the error.
