Adding higher resolution qhd+ or 4k screen to t430 or w530 via displayport?

#1 Post by jedisurfer1 » Mon Feb 15, 2016 9:33 am

I know this is a silly idea but I can't find a laptop that I like better than my w520 and w530. The centered keyboard, performance, drive options, esata on the docks, plus I have plenty of the docks in each room so I'm not looking forward to losing esata and having to replace every dock. To me it's only missing a super high resolution.

I know little about screens, has anyone ever routed from the external displayport to edp lcd in any laptop. Or is this a ludicrous dream.

I'm with you.... very happy with my T530 except for the TN screen. But I've searched and I haven't been able to find a 15.6" IPS screen that's mechanically compatible with the B156HW01-V4 in the T530. I'd even consider doing a custom flex and adapter board (say, for eDP to LVDS conversion) if I could just find a compatible IPS panel.

lvds to edp converter cable. 1080p I already have so if I can find an higher resolution screen would this be possible. I have a spare t430 and t420 I could try this on, or am I wasting my time.

The usual suspect from Taobao has WQHD (2560X1440) T420s and T430s
