T440p last 14.1" to Feature Ultrabay?

#1 Post by agarza » Fri Mar 11, 2016 4:52 pm

Hi

Am I correct that the T440p is the last 14.1" Thinkpad to have the Ultrabay?
The P50 15.6" does have the Ultrabay but is a bigger machine.

Is the Ultrabay being phased out for the upcoming T generations?

The P50 doesn´t have an UltraBay, neither does the T460p, the successor of the T440p. So yes, your assumption is correct, the UltraBay and ODDs in general are being discontinued. Only two models to even feature DVD burners anymore are L560 and P70.

OK thanks for the reply.

Now it seems the brand is being dismantled with its legacy features.

I'm thinking on getting one new T440p but base, without the IPS screen or SSD, I'm planning to upgrade the screen and fit the T450 touchpad.
OR either I can wait and see if the retro Thinkpad will be released for public.

Is the T440p a good machine? OR maybe skip it altogether.

It is, definitely, with an IPS panel. BTW, I have felt no need for the T*50* touchpad for two years

Hi namesake.

I just ordered a T440p with a top-of-line Core i7 4710MQ but with the crappy resolution.
Do you know where can I order the better IPS screen for the laptop?

BTW, do you mean you haven't had the need to replace the ClickPad with the Traditional one from the T450?

2nd q 1st: Indeed. I got used to the clickpad. Nonetheless, I temporarily replaced it with a T450-touchpad bought on ebay, just to find out that I prefer the original clickpad by quite a margin.
1st q: See here https://support.lenovo.com/ch/de/documents/pd029304
There are sellers on ebay for the AUO B140HAN01.3.
