No Synaptics Found

#1 Post by knotti » Fri Jul 01, 2016 5:04 am

Hi all, i am new and signed up to get some awnsers.

I have a Lenovo T550 which i like but i have a problem with the touchpad. The settings for my touchpad are not to be found and I therefore can't disable the touchpad. The UltraNav is not found anywhere in my system nor under mouse-settings.
Note that my touchpad works, maby even too well and interferes with my witing :D

i have tried downloading the drivers and installing them but get a message that says "no Synaptics found".

Plz help

Yes I have seen thoes methods, but my keybord does not have that function and I am unable to find the settings for the touchpad. They simply won't show as if there is no touchpad at all.

Hit F1 at boot to go into BIOS/Config/Keyboard-Mouse
This setting is not in all Thinkpads.
If there, check if Trackpoint and Touchpad are ENabled.

The BIOS/Config thing worked but it is still a bad workaround to the problem, can i somehow get the drivers working or at least showing?

You probably run that abominable Windows 10.
There are tons of problems with that...

Go into Device Manager.
Any unknown items there?
Uninstall whatever you find about the touchpad, then reboot to see if the drivers are re-installed.
What OS?

Time to call in the troops.
That machine should still be under warranty.

1. Try unplugging everything including battery and CMOS battery. Related.. it might not be shutting all the way off.
2 A screwed up registry can sometimes supercede BIOS , for instance the NoDriveAutorun registry entry does.

I had a similar problem with this, and I did what I always do which is to go to the Lenovo website directly and download the application which includes the drivers.

What I do in this situation is completely wipe the hard drive which of course includes the registry . I figure out the drive manufacturer, go to their website, download the utility to completely clean the drive which generally includes creating a USB to boot from and wipe it clean. Then I reinstall the OS from the "lenovo system disks". I like the Lenovo bloatware. LOL
