So, I decided to give my Dad my newly purchased T420s which I upgraded. So he has a nice machine now. I would like to get a replacement, and I was eyeing the T450 model. Wasn't sure if I wanted to get the T450 or T450s. What are your opinions? Or any other models? A guy offered me a T440 for $300 and I thought he was a little high for that one.

I can spend up to $500 probably. Not looking new, but looking mint condition, good battery life, good process. I can upgrade the ram and drive.

Okay, well since I haven't gotten a response here and the guy couldn't wait, so he sold me the T440 for $250. I hope that is a good laptop. :)

T440 misses the physical trackpoint buttons, if this part doesn't bother you then it's a good laptop, the price is also good. Hope you got HD+ resolution.

I saw you can replace the trackpad with the 450. So I ordered a replacement for $30 bucks. Also, I did not get the 1920x1080. so I will put that on my list to upgrade down the line. I don't need it right now, but at least it can be upgraded. Also ordered 8gb crucial memory module and a 240gb SSD. I think it will be a great laptop after all set and done. :)

What is the battery life on this?

There is no 1920x1080 T440, but 1600x900 and 1366x768, hope I'm not wrong.

Anyway, how is T440 compared to T420s?

Haven't gotten the t440 in my hands yet. He is shipping it Monday. It is a 1600x900 display that is currently on it. You can also upgrade it to 1080.

I upgraded the 450 touchpad on my T440s, and it changed it into a proper Thinkpad laptop again.
There was some driver issues, but after following flyoils suggestions (modify inf-file) below I had it running properly both in Win 7 and Win 10.

The FHD IPS I added was a BOE NV140FHM-N41. This panel is not compatible for modding with T420s FHD kit, but works fine in T440s.

Thank you for the info. I read it and didn't see anything about inf but it said to remove some drivers then install new ones.

finally, I found the way to use T450 driver to fit my T440P on Win10….

Pre-requirement:
1. uninstall any Synaptics driver.

2. download the tool from the following website that can prevent the driver update from windows update.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3073930

3. Download the latest T450 driver from lenovo web site [jbg206ww.exe]

Setup the latest T450 driver on T440P:

1. Run jbg206ww.exe and only extract files without installation.
2. Edit x64/SynPD.inf under the folder to which the driver is extracted.
3. you will find three line as follows.
Be aware that “LEN0036” is the T440P Hardware ID.
please check your hardware ID from device manager in control pannel.
===================================================
%SMB.IBMDeviceDesc% = LENOVO_GROUP36_InterTouch_Inst,ACPI\LEN0036

%SMB.IBMDeviceDesc% = LENOVO_GROUP36_InterTouch_Win8_Inst,ACPI\LEN0036

%SMB.IBMDeviceDesc% = LENOVO_GROUP36_InterTouch_Win8_Inst,ACPI\LEN0036

======================================================

4. delete the three line.

5. find the three line below.
%SMB.IBMDeviceDesc% = LENOVO_GROUP41_InterTouch_Inst,ACPI\LEN200E

%SMB.IBMDeviceDesc% = LENOVO_GROUP41_InterTouch_Win8_Inst,ACPI\LEN200E

%SMB.IBMDeviceDesc% = LENOVO_GROUP41_InterTouch_Win8_Inst,ACPI\LEN200E

6. replace “LEN200E” into “LEN0036” for the three line
LEN200E is T450 hardware ID.

7. save the change and close the SynPD.inf file

8.Restart by command in cmd: shutdown /r /o /f /t 0 (other method: Hold shift down and click restart)

On the boot manu
Select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > Startup Settings > Restart

In restart, select option 7. (you must select 7 to bypass digital signature ,otherwise the driver installation will be failed. )

9. Go to the folder to which the driver is extracted.

Run setup.exe normally.
During the installation, the warming message will pop-up that metioned without digital signature.
please agree it to complete the installation.

now the latest T450 driver will be installed ,but the driver did not have digital signature just because SynPD.inf was modified…….who cares….

I first tried to download new driver and install it, but had no function from Trackpoint buttons.
This procedure worked for me both in Win 7 and in Win 10.
I don't recall how I solved point 8 in Win 7 (or if I dropped it), in Win 10 this allows you to bypass "nanny mode" and have superuser rights in Windows system.
There were some small deviations from the instruction in the newest drivers I downloaded, but I managed to remove the right lines and add the right identifications for the new touchpad to be identified as a 450 touchpad instead of a 440 touchpad.

The only downside with the 450 touchpad was the plastic surface is not as slick as the etched glass surface of the 440 touchpad.
