T460P - How to know if 3G hardware is present?

Hi,

I received a T460P laptop, and I tried the 3G module by inserting a data sim into the slot, but nothing is altered in Windows 10, if I insert a 3G pen, it immediately show the cellular icon.

Can you guys help me to check if the hardware is present and active?

Do I've to do something to active the hardware?

BTW: In the Device Manager, there's no device with an exclamation point or any warning that no driver exists.

Thanks ahead for your help,

L. Pinho

Open Command Prompt and type command:

Code: Select all

netsh mbn show i
It lists all mobile broadband WWAN devices available. Typically the laptop is rather 'WWAN upgradable' (you can check it here for your model type number under WWAN column in the table), that means the antenna is present but you have to buy and install the WWAN module yourself. Check PSREF for compatible WWAN devices. There are two options:

Sierra Wireless EM7455 - supports 4G/LTE including fastest LTE-A, 3G, but no 2G (GPRS/EDGE)
HUAWEI ME906S - supports 4G/LTE (no LTE-A), 3G and 2G (GPRS/EDGE)

Since you have good 4G and 3G coverage in Portugal I would go for EM7455. The ME906S is better for countries with underdeveloped mobile networks like here in Czech Republic where some locations are still covered by 2G data only.
