external fingerprint reader

#1 Post by skm67 » Thu Oct 06, 2016 4:26 pm

Hi Everyone,

I just got my new T460p a few days ago and love it!

I'm still in the process of getting it set up and I found that the Lenovo brand external fingerprint reader (41u3167) that I have been using with no problem with my old T60p isn't working with my new T460p. :(

When I plugged it in, Win7 recognized it and loaded a driver and when I am asked to provide a finger print, and swipe on the external fingerprint reader, the software reads the fingerprint and says "authentication failed, please try again" so I know that the external fingerprint reader is working with the laptop. However, when I try to register fingerprints using the external fingerprint reader, the software does not respond at all.

The reason for all this is, I use the T460p in a dock (I have three external monitors) and while in the dock, the laptop is closed and the integrated fingerprint reader is not accessible.

I'm wondering if it is because the two fingerprint readers are different styles? the integrated one requires me to just place my finger on the sensor, while the external one requires me to swipe my finger.

Has anyone been able to get an external fingerprint reader to work? Doesn't matter if it is a different brand. Though I'd love to get the reader I already have to work, I'm willing to buy something else if that will solve the problem.

Would it be better if I used win10? I've read that the new os handles biometrics better. Has anyone had success using an external reader with that os?

Thanks!

s

I just got a new external fingerprint reader and the Lenovo software still doesn't recognize it.

I'm starting to wonder if any external reader will work...

Yay! Its working!

I had to uninstall the Lenovo Fingerprint software and then I was able to register fingerprints using the new external reader I bought (Zvetco Verifi P5100) and then contacted Lenovo for the driver (g1f814ww.exe) for the integrated fingerprint reader. Once installed, both internal and external are working like a dream!

Did your fingerprints have to be "learned" on both readers, or did the other reader accept them automatically when "learned" on the alternate?
