SSD in T460s

#1 Post by FragrantHead » Thu Oct 20, 2016 9:19 am

I'm wondering what SSDs Lenovo is deploying in the T460s, specifically the 512GB and 1TB models. The latter costs barely more, here in EU, so I would guess that the 512GB is maybe the Samsung SM961 (or SM951?), and the 1TB is the PM961. Can anyone confirm this? Perhaps those who bought the machine could share what they got, and when they bought it?

I ask because of my longstanding scepticism about first MLC, then TLC memory. Specifically weren't there some Samsung EVO (TLC) drives that slowed down due to degradation of the stored data over time. It seemed to me that Samsung were pushing the envelope and, while no actual data loss was reported, the drives slowed because they had trouble retrieving it so to speak. If I had a choice, I would go for an SM961 1TB drive, even at a higher price.

From this guide http://www.laptopmain.com/lenovo-thinkp ... ade-guide/, the T460s comes with a Samsung 512GB CM871 M.2 SSD, SM961 should be work on the T460S.

If upgrading, i personally would rather wait for at least the 1TB NVMe SSD.
