T540p no beep :(?
Posted: Mon Dec 05, 2016 8:35 pm
Hi.
For some reason the beep isn't working anymore. It think it's on (?) but it's not outputting nor from the PC speaker or in the headphones like it used to :/
I don't think it's broken otherwise i could hear it in headphones (routed there when plugged, if i recall correctly).
I have not found the BIOS option to turn on/off beeps. I have off for password and on for keyboard beep right now, but it's never working.
I run Linux if that might help. lsmod shows pcspkr is loaded, but the program beep doesn't work
I'm stuck, any clue?
Thanks.
EDIT:
Hi all, i have started a thread on Reddit as well, i have not found a fix yet.

Hi all.
Lately my current ThinkPad (T540p) stopped beeping. I cannot recall if i disabled it myself (which i believe i didn't) but nonetheless i am trying to turn it back on, and i can't find where to do so.
I am running [BIOS version 2.24] (https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/gmuj21uc.txt).
The problem :
1. There is no beep if i interupt startup.
2. No beep at supervisor password prompt
3. No beep in OS either, running Linux, using the "beep" program doesn't output anything. Programs that use the beep like "irssi" to warn me of someone saying my name are not sending any beeps.
I run arch linux, "pcspkr" module is loaded.
But the beep is disabled systemwide >:[. Normally the beep is routed through the headphones if plugged, but nothing happens nor with or without them.
[Here,] (https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/General-Di ... a-p/328397) we can see his BIOS has 4 options in "Beep and Alarm", i only have two, both are ENABLED (Password and keyboard beep).
I really need help with this. :'[
