If you use your battery heavily, then it is possible to have such a drop in 16 months.
Current Thinkpads: W530 (functional classic keyboard mod), X301, T61, T60, T43, T23, 600X, 770
Other: mk5 Toughbook cf-19, mk1 Toughbook cf-53

Thanks, if this is normal wear and tear than I am fine with it. I thought it was good to use the battery instead of keeping it plugged in all the time. Habit I had with X220 that seemed to last for hours.

Is there an extended battery option that will be compatible with dock for T450s?
Thank you.

Not sure about the extended battery, but assuming you are running W7 or linux, you can for sure set a charge threshold to limit the battery charge. Generally, the lower the better, but stopping at 80% is a good tradoff between runtime and battery life expectancy. When using or storing a battery, just don't let it go below 5%, otherwise the cells can become unstable or damaged.

I am on Win 8.1, sadly.
I do let it go out completely but it's not my fault. I had much longer warning on my X220 so I got the habit of assuming it will last longer.
I'll have to adjust my warning level to like %10 or something before it starts shutting off or going to forced sleep.

Also, I never shut down my laptops, they are always on sleep (my X220 was hibernate, but hibernate function takes much longer to wake up these days, so I just put it to sleep instead, and pick it up few hrs later) could that be damaging the battery too?

I'd love to get an extended battery, though.

Nope, no harm will be done to the battery.
