T440s 2 quarks... can they be fixed?

I have a T440s and for the longest time it has had 2 quarks and I don't know if it is common among other machines in the T440 family but I was wanting to know can you disable automatic startup when you open the lid after the computer has been put into hibernation? it would be bad if it turns on without me knowing....

Also can you have the backlite keyboard come on every time the machine is turned on it's kinda inconvenient to manually turn it on but I can live with turning it on manually if I absolutely have to I just don't want to turn it in everytime

Assume you to mean "quirks", not "quarks". One is a strange or peculiar trait, while the other is a tiny particle of matter.

If the system in truly in hibernation, then the only thing that should wake it up is pressing the power button. However, if the system is in standby mode, then lifting the lid will turn it back "on". Hibernation can be done from the Start menu or Fn+F12. Standby, or sleep mode, can be done from Start menu or Fn+F4.

Not sure about the operation of the backlit keyboard as I don't have one but I assume that it's operating properly and that there's nothing that you about turning the light on automatically unless you hack the firmware (unless there's a setting in BIOS that controls this).

yes I can confirm the computer does indeed turn itself on when you lift the lid after being put in hibernation without pressing power button... I put it in hibernation via start menu and wait for it to fully power off... than close lid and wait a few minutes... upon opening the lid it will turn itself back on without pressing the power button.... kinda annoying for me

the backlite keyboard doesn't have a setting in bios so that means I will have to turn it on manually every time it wakes up or turns on? kinda a hassle but I can live with it......

What happens if you put the system in hibernation using Fn+F12, close the lid, wait a few moments, and then open the lid? Does the system still come back on automatically?

pressing FN+F12 doesn't put machine into hibernation.... it doesn't do anything when pressed.... when pressing F12 without holding FN it just brings up start menu

What operating system are you using? Do you have Power Manager running? It is typically accessed by clicking the battery icon in the System Tray.

There is no Fn+F12 support on T430 and later systems, as far as I know, nor is there an alternative sequence for hibernation.

Hibernation can be added to the shutdown sub-menu (next to Shut down, Restart, etc.) via the power options.

that's what I was thinking.... I do enter hibernation via start menu or my closing the lid on battery and get this symptom

Ah, sorry I did not know that as I don't have anything later than a T520/W520.

the T430 has the hibernation problem also so I'm guessing all Thinkpad T series newer than the T430 have the automatic power on when lid ls opened in hibernation.... doesn't happen when shut down... only with sleep and hibernation

It must be some specific driver / setting fault.

My X220 does wake-up from sleep upon lid open, if it's been through at least 1 sleep/wake cycle (happens in both Windows 7 and Windows 8.1). I do not remember if it also wakes up from hibernation or not. This must be a bug (could be in the BIOS, maybe in one of the drivers).

My T430s does not wake-up from sleep or hibernation upon lid open (Windows 10).
Funnily, the T430s just started doing it too, at least sometimes. Apparently, only from sleep.

I know from sleep it does... every computer I have does... it's just hibernation that annoys me since I don't want it to like wakeup when in a bag or somthing
