T430s dock ejection

#1 Post by ThorOfAsgard » Sun May 21, 2017 4:02 pm

On previous Thinkpad docks I owned, there was a button to press before actually releasing the machine from the dock. I don't see any such button on my T430s dock. Is it safe to just eject it straight away?

Fancy one woth a pcie slot, just eject it.

Indeed, and since there is not a dock for T430s that has a PCIe slot, there is no need for such a button.

My ultrabase 3 for my X220 had a button that needed to be pressed before undocking, and it had no pci-e slot. Unless the DVD drive was connected via pci-e bus or something.

No, it's SATA (which ultimately goes through PCIe, but it fully supports hot plug/unplug). However, if you have a hard drive there, and it's being actively accessed, then perhaps yanking the laptop out of the dock can be bad. In normal situations, you don't really need to press this button.

Makes sense. Alright, thanks. Good to know I can just pop it out without worrying.
