I'm in the market for a new laptop after almost nine years with a Macbook pro late 2008. I want to use it with my bicycle trainer, some coding, some HD video editing and photos, and mostly just arguing on the Internet . The price point of the t440s and p is just right. But is there other options that take daily use, have a long battery life and is silent in use? And how much more noisy is the p model?

Re: T440s or s? Or other?
Hi.
I have a T440p with a Core i7.
I have to run that thing on "minimum" CPU power always so "Maximum Battery Life" is used in Power Options, otherwise that thing would get very hot, CPU temperatures in the range of 55-65C. When using with 5% of CPU power it can stay at 44-50C with the fan set to Mode 1 using a software that controls the fan at 3,000rpm.
I don't have experience with the T440, but having owned a T450 and T460 those machines run very cool, specially the T460. The processors use a TDP of 15W version the 47W Core i7 on the T440p although you can use a normal Core i5 with 35W I believe.
You can put a Full HD screen panel on a T440/p without problems, the normal LCD panels these models come with are rubbish.
Bare in mind that on the T440 the screen bezel is a plastic sheet with glue, usually putting a FHD screen such as the AUO B140HAN01.2 the lower part of the LCD would bulge, and from time to time the screen plastic bezel would not be in close contact with the LCD resulting on a minor aesthetic detail.
On the T440p you have a hard plastic bezel and the job is spotless.
If you want battery life go with either the T440/s, these have dual batteries, and you can use the even bigger 72Wh battery + the 24Wh internal battery so you will get awesome battery life

Re: T440s or s? Or other?
Thanks. I was put off by the power consumption and the lack of physical buttons. So I ended up getting a slightly used t470s.
