Bad keyboard on T470p

#1 Post by chetan » Tue Jul 25, 2017 8:02 pm

Hi
I got my T470p a couple of weeks ago and I am very very disappointed with the keyboard. It is quite unlike the other thinkpads I have used. I have 2006 manufactured T60p (currently typing on it), used T410, T420 provided by my employer and I didn't ever have a reason to complain about keyboard.

Issues faced:
just keeping hands on the resting place can trigger some activity by the keyboard. For example, some window may get minimized or something equally uncalled for.
Not sure if some settings can be done to make this random behavour go away.

I have one 11 inch device from a local manufacturer (obviously a chinese product stamped with their own logo) which compares with the keyboard experience I am having with the T470p. This device cost me no more than $110 and it was bought with clear expectations. T470p was also bought with some expectations which are not met at all.

I feel it would have been better to get some Apple product at a price similar to what I paid for this one. One factor for not opting for Apple was "getting stuck behind a wall".
I use linux and using Apple wouldn't have made too much of difference (I used command line mostly)

Not happy at all
Willing to sell and move on.

Did you try booting a Linux distro to see if the weird behaviour is present?
Maybe a stuck key?

Sounds like some hardware needs to be fixed (especially your keyboard?)...
Perhaps you can let Thinkpad repair depot to look at your machine?
Your T470p should still be under warranty...

fyi, we are very happy with our Thinkpads, some of which are running well over 5+ yrs old now...
