Gonna get another T430... but what one?

#1 Post by Whitieiii » Thu Aug 17, 2017 7:18 pm

it's time for another T430 but what config should I go with? I still don't know the differences between the T430/T430s/T430i/T430u/T430si... what are the differences?

also would it be best in this situation to go with an Intel Celeron, 3rd gen i3 or 3rd gen i5? this thing will only have 4 GB of ram with an HDD so I don't want it to be too powerful and be underutilized as it's only use is to be hooked up to the bedroom tv to watch internet videos in the bedroom

any suggestions would be helpful!

If thats the case, why not a X201s? Those are cheap and will have the power you need with out much power consumption? Any particular reason your going for the xx30.

I need something that will output both video and sound via HDMI and the t410 I have doesn't work with my TV but my x220, T430, T440s and macbook pro retina all work on this TV so don't know what's wrong... Need all my other computers for other things so can't dedicate one for the tv

Avoid the T430s (flakey mobos i guess). I would get straight T430, maybe try to find one with with Nvidia and the better screen. TBH it's easier to find a well equiped T520/T530 with 1600x900 screen and Nvidia.

The T430 screens suck :(

I currently use a T520 to run my 50" 4k (but only pushing 1080p atm) and it works well.

Also why doesn't the T410 work again? Maybe drivers need updated?

I have a T430 now and I like it... I'm not a fan of 15 and 17 inch laptops they are just too big for me... I was gonna pickup another T440s with a busted display but much rather have a T440p (anybody wanna trade?) I know now I'm gonna look for a T430 but should I go with the lowest i5 and 4 GB ram?

Why not check the Lenovo outlet?

My Sony 4K smart TV doesn't see that I have plugged it in to the display port... It does the same thing with an Amazon Fire TV stick... Don't know what's wrong but all my other computers work with it

I REALLY like my T450s (with IPS 1080p lcd) after replacing the motherboard in it (it got lemonaded) and seeing how EASY to work on they are. I use the trackpoint too much to want a T440s, unless it is easily switched to button trackpad. T430 if it's just gonna run a TV though.

I have a T440s I did install the T450 trackpad but could never get the trackpoint buttons to work...

W10 needs an older driver version, plus you have to mod the Group Policy Editor to tell W10 to keep its dirty mitts off that driver.
Talk about yet another reason to avoid W10...

I have windows 10 not only because it was free at the time and I didn't wanna pay for Windows 7 but I HATE Windows 8/8.1 and I wanted to test out windows 10... I'm gonna modify it so that it works with windows 10 and doesn't update itself and brake itself
