T470: Installing backlit keyboard, is it a drop-in?

#1 Post by tendim » Fri Sep 01, 2017 12:04 pm

Hi.

New Thinkpad T470 arrived last night from Lenovo, and I am kicking myself because I failed to order the backlit keyboard. :( I foolishly thought the only difference in keyboard was French/English, since every Thinkpad I've had has had some built-in keyboard illumination, so i assumed illumination was standard..

If I am able to source a keyboard online (e.g. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Brand-New-For-L ... Sww9xZAxVw), is it a drop-in replacement? Are the keyboards easy to replace?

Thanks,
-10d

You need to remove two screws at the bottom and the keyboard should pop out. Don't forget to switch off internal battery in BIOS and take out removable one too. There are video tutorials to do that over the web.

Thanks for the above; I did manage too find online videos (e.g. the Lenovo technician repair site) and it does look dead simple to install.

Now, the next question: any recommendations on where to purchase one? eBay seems to be the best bet so far.
