Hello Everyone,
Big fan of the original Thinkpad. I did purchase a 440P however, was wondering which of the two (T440P vs T470P) could we mod to have a laptop good enough to withstand the next decade.... The reason I went for the 440P and not the 470P was because the 470P throttles the TDP (ie, 45W for the first number of seconds than 35W for normal use)... This was not acceptable for my needs. Moving forward I would like to know what is the most I can do to the T440P to get the best out of the machine. I know of the mouse pad and IPS upgrade. I am more leaning towards the CPU and MEM....
Questions:
* Is it possible to unlock the bios (whitelist) to accept a 7th gen Intel quad core.
* I needed to get 32GB of ram on the machine for my type of use (virtualization)
Would it have been easier to modify the T470P and remove the TDP throttling? Or mod the T440P to accept a 7th gen 45W CPU and 32GM ram.
That being said, which of the 14" Thinkpads are people maxing out with modifications? I really hope the T440P was a good choice otherwise I can sell it and purchase another T series 14 inch machine to modify.

All CPUs are soldered AFAIK. What you should do is get a W530 with 32gb ram. Thats most likely blow both machines away.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Hello, thank you for your response. The P series are not soldered

This holds true for T440p but all current Intel CPUs are soldered...
