Your favorite post classic T-series?

#1 Post by Whitieiii » Thu Sep 07, 2017 2:30 am

My favorite post classic T-series so far has to be the T440 S/P even though I have just bought a T440p (and may replace my T440s both as my daily and as my favorite Thinkpad yet) but as much as I hate to say this I actually like the newer Island style keyboard with backlight like the T430 and later has and for some reason I can't type on a computer with the keys too closely spaced together.... but all in I just like the design of the T440 S/P better than that of the earlier models as I didn't start loving thinkpads as much as I do now till almost into the windows 8 ara when our school switched to T-series Thinkpads (for teachers) sometime in 2012 or 2013 when they stop buying HP

anyways what is YOUR favorite Post classic T-series? I'd love to know!

I thought the T450s had the best blend of features. It could do a M.2 SSD and a hard drive, which the T460s could not do, but didn't have the no trackpoint buttons problem like the T440s. The newer ones are a bit lighter, but more expensive too.

I always thought the ThinkLight was a better idea than backlighting the keys and the non backlit keyboards seem better quality wise, but that ship has sailed, so I'll take the backlight. I like the new keyboards too, but I'm not a fast typer - 35WPM or so.

right now if I can find a newer machine than the t440 s/p for about $200 or less (buy it now price that is) id buy one but i'm so cheap I won't ever own one... the thinklight was a great feature when you need to read some papers on the plane or things like that but I can't stand the thinklight on worn keys... the shiny spots really annoy me and in my usage I haven't found the backlight to show worn keys as much as the thinklight... doesn't the T460 address more ram than the T450?

None of them really, they all suck, I'm of the "Once you get past the T43p look for the compromises..." School.

I can live with the T450 (with dual SSD's, mSATA and M.2) but only stick with it because I'll never leave the brand voluntarily, however I might get one of those modified classics as a replacement at some stage.

As for the ThinkLight... much preferred it...

A T430s w/ i7 and 16GB RAM kicks the hell out of every post-classic TP!
Welcome to the jungle, we have FrankenPads
If you want it you're going to bleed, but that is the price to pay
And you're a very rare mobo, very hard to get
You can see the blinky lights, but you won't get them for free.
