Hi guys,
Got a T470s for office work. It has a 6th Gen Core i7-6600U, it's a UK machine.
I'm a bit curious about the spec - when I looked online - some T470s seem to be shown with the 7th gen processor (Lenovo shop site show this); yet when I looked in bios & on Lenovo's site for this serial number - this unit definitely should have 6th gen chip. Which then confuses me further, as it's not really that different to T460s, is it?
I know Kaby Lake wasn't a dramatic overall of Skylake on the laptop side, though just a bit surprised there seem to be 2 versions of the T470s? Is there more to this? (e.g. did I miss a mid season refresh)?
Thanks,

Re: T470s Query
Wouldn't be the first time that Thinkpads had two separate generations of chip on the same unit. From around 1997-2000, Thinkpads could come with the Pentium MMX or the Pentium II chips, or the PII or PIII.Quicklite wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2017 2:43 pmHi guys,

Thanks,
For example:
The TP600 could come with a PMMX 233Mhz or PII 233,266 or 300MHz
The TP380XD had the option between the PMMX 233,266 or PII 233, 266 Mhz
So in reality, having 2 generations on one laptop really isn't that strange. It most likely was ordered months ago, and as a result, the machines got the older chip. Anyway, you get updates with windows 7 .

Re: T470s Query
Thanks for the reply - I imagine the internal is probably closer to T460S than the Kaby Lake T470S - might be a custom UK batch.
Shouldn't matter much - had to clean install Win 10, as the upgrade from Win 7 Pro was a bit laggy. Wonderful little machine.

Re: T470s Query
Actually, it should be just a normal T470s board. Most CPUs of the same family will be pin compatible. All P4 chips from 2003-2006 are pin compatible. Mpst C2D chips are pin compatible(but not acutally due to minor differences) and even T420s can take the 3rd gen chips from the T430s. In all reality, its the exact same mobo as the Kaby Units. My mobo for my desktop was compatible with 4th/5th and 6th fen chips as stated right on the box.Quicklite wrote:Thanks for the reply - I imagine the internal is probably closer to T460S than the Kaby Lake T470S - might be a custom UK batch.
