T530 screen flicker. New screen or is it something else?
Hi, new user and first post! Daughter's 2013 Thinkpad T530 serial R9ZNVTT has developed a severe screen flicker which makes it hard to use if not impossible.
Have done a bit of Googling which points to it needing a new LED screen. This would perhaps tally with the fact that when she plugs in an auxiliary screen the problem doesn't happen on the aux one.
I partially dismantled the machine enough to see the model number on the screen (B156XTN02.1) and am on the brink of ordering a replacement on EBay. I don't want to spend her money in the wrong direction, so does anyone have any thoughts on other possible causes before I buy please? Thanks.

Re: T530 screen flicker. New screen or is it something else?
B156XTN02.1 is a base resolution 1366x768 panel. If buying a new screen you should go up to a 1920x1080, it really makes the laptop better to use.
Look at this list of panels: http://www.panelook.com/B156HW01%20V4_A ... ble_Models
AUO B156HW01 V4 is the stock screen used in Thinkpad W520. But there are also other screens that may be easier to find. I myself installed a Dell Innolux N156HGE-L11 in my T520 and it's a great screen.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately I'm in the UK and the lady owner needs it fixing pretty quickly and at low cost so not much time to explore costs and options. My main concern is that I replace the screen and the flicker remains, but I can't see what else can be causing it.

You can try to reseat the cable from the motherboard and from the display. Also play around with the cable to see if the cable is defective.
Otherwise I happen to have a stock LCD from my own T530i, in flawless condition, that I do not want because I am aiming for a HD+ or FHD panel sometime soon anyways.

Yeah, I can't bring myself to order a new screen without first tweaking the cable and connectors as you suggest. Should have done it when I had the machine a few days ago I guess. That's a kind offer regarding your stock screen, thank you, but as I'm in the UK I guess that the logistics and import tax might be a problem. Thanks just the same.

I think shipping + tax is probably around £10-15. I don't think there is gonna be a hell lot of tax because I ain't gonna sell this too expensive to begin with
