T530 blank screen after system board replacement
T530 blank screen after system board replacement
Hello everyone !
I’m a little lost with my T530...
I have replaced the motherboard a few weeks ago and I ask me if I have bricked the laptop.
When I have restarted the system, there was no display for a moment, then I had a pink/violet screen with error codes. I don’t remember well the codes but it seems normal after such replacement.
The system asked me to press esc or F1 (or F2) to enter the BIOS setup or restart (sorry my memories are fuzzy!) but none of the keys worked, even the power button to shutdown.
So I decided to remove battery to shutdown and try to restart.
But now, when I plug the power cable, It happens nothing ...before each « test » I have to unplug the Bios battery for a few seconds, then It starts directly when I plug the power cable.
I have first the thinklight on for a short time then the wifi led and power button led on, then a « crackling » and a beep code that doesn’t seem to match any of these. (https://support.lenovo.com/fr/fr/solutions/ht005215)
Here is a short video that is more clear than my explanations with my poor english level !
https://www.dropbox.com/s/qijeqbcsk2peg ... e.flv?dl=0
If someone as an idea? Thank you in advance for your help!

Re: T530 blank screen after system board replacement
Isn't that beep code a memory error?

Thanks for your answers!
Yes keyboard is plugged.
Do you talk about the code in the video ? The 1-3-3-1 is "normal" without ram. In the video, ram is plugged but the code don't match to any of those described by Lenovo.
Re: T530 blank screen after system board replacement
I have tried without ram, the error code is : One short beep, pause, three short beeps, pause, three more short beeps, and one short beep.
You're not making any sense.Do you talk about the code in the video ? The 1-3-3-1 is "normal" without ram. In the video, ram is plugged but the code don't match to any of those described by Lenovo.
Yes that is the beep code for failed RAM, no RAM, or a bad slot, mismatched RAM, etc. But, then you say it doesn't match any Lenovo codes. 1-3-3-1 is a good Lenovo code.
Either your new motherboard doesn't like the old RAM, the MB has a bad slot, or the RAM is bad (unless it works in another machine).

Re: T530 blank screen after system board replacement
OP turned on his machine and got an error code, on-screen. He doesn't know what the actual error code was!?
Then, he removed the ram and rebooted. At that point he got the 1-3-3-1.
He mentioned the ram just to give a picture of what he has tried.
So, the problem is the error code which appeared on-screen.
RobTP, what is the exact error message which appears on the screen?

Re: T530 blank screen after system board replacement
As I said, I just had something on the screen at the first start a few days ago.
Now screen is blank, please, just have a look to the video to hear the strange crackling and "new" beep code ...

Re: T530 blank screen after system board replacement
OK, thanks for the clarification.
The only thing I found about this seven beep code was video chip failure, or a CPU exception, but on an HP machine.

Re: T530 blank screen after system board replacement
Thanks for your research, I have find a list for AMI bios on Ideapad https://support.lenovo.com/fr/en/solutions/ht062270
7 short beeps would be : "CPU exception interrupt error, CPU on MB generates an exception interrupt and cannot switch to protected mode"
Is it possible to damage the CPU when unplugging the battery ? I have tested it in another laptop before. And it starts at less once in this one.
