T430 Heatsink Clarification

#1 Post by brucehe » Wed Feb 07, 2018 2:09 am

I just got a T430 for a friend and the fan really is noisy. I don't believe it is worn just noisy. The recommendations I have read on the Forum suggest replacing the heatsink PN 0B41086 (which is what is in it) with a 0B41087 Delta fan as the post imply the copper fins have wider spacing to reduce the air noise. I cannot find such an animal (part number) on EBAY. i can find the dGPU heatsink with two HS pipes.

Any ideas where to find this (PN 0B41087) quieter fan or if the dGPU heatsink and fan will work to reduce the noise level?

The posts suggest changing the fan alone will reduce the noise but if it is the copper fins causing the sound they are part of the heatsink assembly not the fan. If it is the inlet to the fan causing the noise and changing a fan alone with a larger inlet solves the problem what is the PN for that fan? Any clarity on the best strategy to reduce this existing fan and heatsink noise level and ideas where to find the parts are appreciated.

PS Of course I can also run TPFC to reduce the fan run time.

You can also use 04W3268 (Delta integrate) or 04W3270 (Delta discrete) fans.

RBS,

That's great info in the photos. Now I know what I am looking for. So, it looks like I can just change the fan to reduce the noise level.

Here is one I found which looks correct, what you think?

Thanks a bunch!

Looking at the screw pattern on the fan and housing between the two heatsinks, from what I can tell by the photos, it does not look like the Delta fan will line up with the original fan housing. It looks like I will have to replace the entire heatsink and fan, not sure it is worth $34.

Edit: I was going to start a new thread asking if anyone has been able to install the Delta fan on a Toshiba heatsink.

Well, by using TPFC and re-pasting the cpu the fan does not come on often so I decided to live with it for now and spend the dollars on memory.

It really is disappointing that Lenovo designed this fan so poorly that it whines. Curious if the Delta fan was a put into later T430's or is it an aftermarket thing?
