Bios update locked me out of bios
Bios update locked me out of bios
I updated my T430 bios to 2.76. Now when I open bios I see lock icon. I never had any kind of password before. I read some threads on Lenovo forums that this can happen in some cases?

Re: Bios update locked me out of bios
Were you the original, first owner from new?
Depending on how the SVP was set by its (previous?) owner, it could still let you in the BIOS but you cannot change anything.
You sure it's an SVP and not a POP?
If POP, see this: https://support.lenovo.com/en/documents/ht036206
If SVP, get another motherboard, without SVP.
FYI: we do not allow public discussions of how to remove/bypass an SVP.

Re: Bios update locked me out of bios
I am not the original owner, I bought it used. However I've had it for a few weeks now and I was able to go into bios and make changes without being asked for password.
Now its asking for bios password, which I guess is SVP. Since I have no idea what it is, I just press enter and can go in bios but not change anything. My point is I was able to go in before the bios update, it makes no sense that an update added a SVP.

How did you update BIOS, did you let W10 do it?
In that case blame Micro$haft.
Check with the seller.
If bought on eBay you might wrangle a return-for-refund out of them because not-as-described (unless you already gave feedback...)
Maybe read my first signature?

Was your computer running Windows when you dropped it from the table and it broke? Blame Micro$haft!RealBlackStuff wrote: ↑Wed Jun 06, 2018 2:42 pmHow did you update BIOS, did you let W10 do it?

Re: Bios update locked me out of bios
Bios was updated by downloading Bios update util from Lenovo's site - https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds029252, which I ran, it worked fine with no issues. It wasn't some MS update.

It's not like OEM technical support tells you to uninstall Excel when the machine is on fire.
