[Solved] Lenovo T440p wifi problem

#1 Post by RealBlackStuff » Mon Aug 27, 2018 8:15 am

My (new to me) T440p has an Intel wifi-card AC-7260 in M.2 format.
I have tested it in my X240 and it's working fine there.

In the T440p (with W7-Pro/SP1 64-bit) Device Manager I can get it to show up, but has a yellow exclamation mark.
Under Properties/General it says:
This device is not working properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)
I have uninstalled/reinstalled any Lenovo and Intel drivers I could find, but the wifi triangle icon never shows up in the Systray.
Only the Ethernet icon is there with a red X (because the Ethernet cable is not connected; Ethernet works fine using it).
I have tried different Linux distros as well, still no luck with that wifi.
Removed the card, cleaned the contacts with an eraser from any oxidation, put it back in, still no dice.
There is no wifi-switch anywhere.
Windows Mobility Center does not show any wifi.
Pressing F8 says no wifi or BT is installed.

Near the wifi-card I noticed a thin cable, coming from near where the wifi-card sits and going to the motherboard, where it plugs in next to the RAM slots.
Does anybody know if any of those thin wires in that cable are connected to the wifi-card/slot?
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
Lenovo: X240, X250, T440p, T480, M900 Tiny.

PS: the old Boardroom website is still available on the Wayback Machine

I replaced the motherboard, problem solved.

WARNING: taking a T440p apart is a royal PITA.
