Display not working

#1 Post by vuik » Mon Sep 10, 2018 6:46 pm

Picked up a T460 used from craigslist everything worked fine .
Replaced keyboard and put in 16 gigs of ram and ssd.
Tried to upgrade display to 1080 screen.
Screen not working but old screen not working either.
Laptop does boot and external display works.
Tried all the reset tricks nothing brings the screen to life.
Any body has a suggestion what could be wrong.
Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the Forum.

Did you disconnect the battery/ies before the swap?

I'm not familiar with such a machine.
Maybe HD and FHD need a different LCD-cable?
Has it been put in properly (on LCD and motherboard)?
Did you also remove AC before the swap?
Have you measured the fuses near the LCD connector on the mobo?

Shine a light on the original display when you power it on, do you see a faint image?

Hi, first of all, sorry for my bad English, it isn't my mother tongue.

I'm having the same problem, i've disconnected the original HD and replaced it with a FHD. The latter one didn't lit up, and when i plug the original one, it lits up but it won't show anything on screen, although it "blinks" while entering the OS.

My guess was it could be the cable that links the MB with the display, as i kinda struggle a bit to take it out. Is it possible that it may be broken?
Also, some people told me that the new FHD may not be compatible, and that's why it won't even lit up, but i'm pretty sure it's compatible.
As the author of this post didn't answer if he managed to solve this issue, i desperately need your help...!

Thanks in advance

Sebastian

I personally think it may be the EDID chip on the screen not recognised by the motherboard. It could be screen cable as well but that is usually only an issue for LVDS connections (and unlike Dell latitude, ThinkPads never really cheaped out on single link at that because cutting traces on ribbon cable doesn't save costs and with the widescreen models, I think they rather not want multiple versions of cable to service) and rather unlikely for the 30pin eDP connections used on the newer ThinkPads.

Ok, that could be for the new screen, but what about the old one, which was working fine until this?

The motherboard seems to be fine, so i guess the display may be dead.
I've been searching on the web, but i'm not sure if LP140WH3 SPD1 might be compatible with mine (LP140WH8 TPD1).
I'm following his guide:https://octoperf.com/blog/2018/11/07/th ... yers-guide
