Panel swap in T530 / storage upgrade

#1 Post by wujstefan » Fri Sep 14, 2018 4:46 am

Hello,

I have recently bought a dirt-cheap, nicely specced T530 (quadcore, nVidia) in fantastic shape, BUT the 1600x900 screen is driving me nuts.

I have read a thread or 5 where people report being able to swap a N156HGE-L11 great display into T520 units. Is it possible also with a T530 with cable and inverter from a 1600x900 display model? These panels are pretty cheap in Poland (~$85 new), and hance this may be reasonable to perform a swap.

Another thing is the drive; T530 should work well with mSATA (do not mistake with M2.SATA); did anybody check if the difference between the small card and 2,5" SATA-3 SSD is that big considering performance and/or power draw?

In some models, if the screen is HD (1366x768), you'll need another FHD LCD-cable.
For all: if the screen is HD+ (1600x900), you can use the same cable for FHD.
Supposedly the best FHD LCD is B156HW01 V.4 (matte) or V.7 (glossy).

My X230 runs with an mSATA 250GB SSD with W7 in the WWAN-slot, and a 500GB 7200rpm storage HDD in the main bay.
The HDD switches off after a few minutes of non-use.

Initially I had only a 250GB 2.5" SSD in the main-bay, but I never did any timing.
Personally I don't notice any difference in performance, and even if there is, I couldn't care less.
It's fast enough for me.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

Well it costs pretty much the same as M.2 card, so if getting lower weight / lower power consumption plus faster operation in the same price range then why not.

I can't see the FRU, but the Lenovo numbering is 50.4QE04.001. All the internet say it should work, so it's another I am starting the test :)
