5 screens from 1 T480s? Maybe 8 or 9 with eGPU?

#1 Post by iamdmc » Thu Jan 03, 2019 11:24 am

Hi all,

I've always loved pushing limits and seeing what I can get working in my years of tinkering

I'm currently using my T480s with

1. Internal QHD screen
2. HP 24" FHD monitor (Lenovo USB-A 3.0 to DVI adapter)
3. Dell 24" FHD monitor (USB-C 3.0 to HDMI adapter)
4. External portable monitor I made from my old T480s FHD screen (HDMI to HDMI, with an eDP-to-HDMI driver board for the LCD).

I still have another older screen on my desk (Dell 19" 4:3, VGA & DVI) that I'd like to hook up as a 5th screen. As my laptop remains plugged in, one USB-C 3.0 charging port is taken up. The other USB-c is taken by the USB-C to HDMI adapter. The HDMI port is taken up by another screen. USB-A 3.0 ports are taken up (1) with a USB-to-DVI adapter, and (2) powering the portable monitor. Any solutions?

I could technically run the portable monitor on my Anker PowerCore 13000, and get another USB-to-DVI adapter for screen 5. Do you think I could get it to work?

I know I could get an eGPU and connect 4 more screens to that (so a theoretical max of 8 screens total, or 9 if I use a M.2 NVMe-to-PCIe riser, but that'd be a lot more janky), HOWEVER, I'm currently looking for in-laptop solutions.

Help is always appreciated!
