ThinkPad T430S / minidock series 3+ / QNIX QX2710LED

#1 Post by ke7cfn » Wed Jan 30, 2019 3:00 pm

Hello,

I have been given a QNIX QX2710LED monitor that has a single dual link display port. From reading here it seems that I can't use the monitor with my minidock series 3+ since the DVI is only single link. However some people suggest on another thread that it might be possible to connect a displayport / dual link dvi adapter to one of the display ports, and that might work. The monitor is 2560x1440. Does anybody know if it will be possible to get the monitor to work with my laptop and dock? I actually have a displayport / single link dvi adapter, but with the monitor connected it seems to be displaying test palettes, and no image.

A good DisplayPort to dual-link DVI active adapter will probably work.

P.S. The reason the DVI ports in the dock are single-link is because they are just passive adapters from DisplayPort++ (HDMI over DisplayPort) and dual-link passive adapters cannot exist.

I picked up an Amphenol 023NVR that was labeled displayport to duallink DVI, it didn't work. I also picked up a MiniDP => displayport cable that looked like it had the duallink DVI connecter. it didn't work. :(

I didn't see any active adapters at the shop. I will keep my eyes open for an active adapter.

I purchased this adapter https://www.amazon.com/dp/B013Z723JU . In a review someone mentions they got it working with the same monitor. Hopefully it will work.

I can confirm the active adapter worked. It did not have an external USB power supply but was able to drive the display.

A follow up. When browsing full screen some webpages appear to give vertical lines across the screens, while others do not. Then I'm not sure what steps I should take to resolve this, or what the root cause is. It seems to me it could be the cable, the adapter, the dock, or the way X is driving the display. Is anybody using a similar setup?

flicker example on youtube.
