T480 Isopropyl on screen?
T480 Isopropyl on screen?
Do you guys know of isopropyl damaging the anti-glare coating on T480/470/etc screens, or newer matte thinkpad screens in general? I think I used some isopropyl on mine a while back...

Used it on T450 displays before....just make sure to use a microfiber cloth to prevent screen marks.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.
The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

I have been hearing about the damage that alcohol (isopropyl or ethyl) can cause to LCD screen coating for over a decade, but haven't witnessed a single case of it actually happening.

Probably one of those stupid myths like you can't switch back to conventional from synthetic oil.

I called Lenovo support, and they said it should be fine. Might call them again for a more detailed explanation. Might be with how much isopropyl is used and for how long?
They told me it should be fine, but to not do it again, for whatever that's worth. I'll post an update if I get more info...

Re: T480 Isopropyl on screen?
I use IPA daily on my T series laptop screens and case plastics as well as phones, televisions and most other things to be honest. Never once had a problem with the stuff, but then, I use 99.99% pure IPA.
Granted it is not a T480 (I run T420 & T40) but I have never had problems. The only thing I do is to apply it to a rag (Microfibre cloth, in fact) THEN wipe down the screen and use a second microfibre cloth to finish up. No residue is left after that.

I've been using IPA for probably 20 years, mine is the 91% version that you can buy in any pharmacy or supermarket.
Also using a microfiber cloth.
