RAM surprise with T450s

#1 Post by Olwe » Sat Feb 23, 2019 10:01 pm

As I understood, the T450s has 4gb of soldered in/built-in RAM and only one slot for additional RAM. So, in theory, if I put in a 16gb stick, I should then have a total of ca, 20gb total RAM. But when I swapped out the old stick for the new 16gb, I found the old stick (This machine was bought off eBay used.) was in fact an 8gb stick . . . and when I fired it up, I only had the 16gb total RAM. Before, I had 8gb total, so I just assumed the stick was 4gb and the soldered in/on-board was 4gb. I'm using Ubuntu 18.10. Can anyone shed some light on this mystery?

Well I don't know about the 8gb stick...but for the 16/20gb showing up....well the processor only supports 16gb max. Same with the i7-5600U if you have that one.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.
