Thinkpad T450 Bezel Replacement Question

#1 Post by Dazels21 » Tue Feb 26, 2019 7:57 pm

Hello i recently purchased a t450 a few days ago and it finally arrived! The laptop is in okay condition and i have already purchased an IPS 1920 x 1080 screen for my thinkpad. Problem is, when i received the think pad it had a chip on the corner of the pal mrest (the top compartment not the bottom shell). And a chip on the lid of the thinkpad. So first things first, i went to go look for a replacement for it, because it does not look very nice (i will supply pictures).
I found these two (probably not OEM, but i don't mind) replacement parts.

The rear LCD one and LCD bezel one looks okay for my laptop. But i am confused with the palm rest. As it's only the top of the palm rest i need to replace. Why does it have the bottom case of the track-pad that comes with it? And the back of the keyboard? From what i see on my thinkpad, it looks like i can just pry off the top part of the thinkpad palm rest. Yet the replacement part comes with these dock things that are under the keyboard. Does this mean i will have to disconnect the keyboard and everything? Or is there another part where i can just clip onto the palm rest after taking the old one off? Thanks in advance.

FYI: T440 and T450 use many same parts.
You can get the lid/LCD-bezel cheaper here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/282569611069

Those palmrest pictures are top and bottom views of that same palmrest!
Only difference: one is with (00HN549 )and one is without (00HN550) fingerprintreader hole.
Make sure you specify which one you order.
You'll have to transfer keyboard, trackpad (and FPR).

Get the manual here: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobi ... a27225.pdf
And parts list: https://download.lenovo.com/parts/Think ... 160106.pdf

Some problem with your pictures:

Thanks! I just canceled my order and ordered the cheaper one.
Although it does say T440 on the panel which triggers me.

I also dont think my thinkpad had a docking thing. It has 3 holes under the keyboard, but i am not too sure. Does it matter if i get the one with or without?

And when you mean transfer does that mean i need to unscrew all those things and then transfer them into the new shell? I can't just snap the top level thing off? Sorry, im sounding kinda vague. You can see what i mean by the 'top bit you can pry open' by the first picture on the imgur link. - And should i be upgrading anything while im doing this replacement? An LED indicator that caps lock is on is the only thing this laptop is missing, but idk if you can just add that.

I uploaded the pics here instead - https://imgur.com/a/bPpbrZK

Also one more question! The LCD bezel is like real hard and sturdy on the top, left and right. But at the bottom its squisy... when i press on it feel like im pushing on a sponge. Is that normal? I'm gonna install my screen tomoz so i can check it out tomorrow if its not normal.

I have a T440p myself, but I have never seen a plain T440 or T450, so I don't know about any docking option in the palmrest (???).
My T440p docking port sits on the bottom of the laptop.

To replace your palmrest, I suggest you first check the old one for any part-numbers you can find, such as 00HN550 and AM0TF000300.
And yes, you need to remove whatever you can from 'old' and transfer to 'new'.
Better start reading that manual!

And a caps lock LED indicator for that machine does not exist.

As for the lid strength, same applies as my first remark in this post, never seen one, don't know.
