What to do with card slot?

#1 Post by Thinkpad4by3 » Tue Mar 19, 2019 8:03 pm

My T430 came with the little slot for what looks like a credit card that I haven't seen populated in any other TP. What can I do with it?
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

It is for an authenticator card for secure log on to a corporate or business network.

It can also to be used as an additional layer of protection for a stand-alone computer for Windows log-on.

This software allows a stand alone computer to use the authenticator card:

The trial version is free for a month, but the paid for version is about $60 US. You will still have to purchase a card. I recommend the PIVKey C910 from Taglio. It is very easy and fast to set up using the EIDAuthenticate software.

The card can be purchased on Amazon for about $10.

I installed a card reader on my T520 as a DIY project and I like it.

I was in a bit of a hurry before work this morning and didn't finish my reply in full.

The software will generate an authentication code and write it to the card. It also copies this authenication code to the codes vault (for lack of a better term). When the card is inserted it queries the codes vault for a matching authenticator, and if found, will unlock the computer.

It is virtually unhackable and would take months of hacking to get into your system without the authenticator code. It is quite secure. If you choose to, you can use this exclusively and turn off or not use a Windows password or fingerprint reader.

The only drawback is losing the card.

How do I find out what kind of SD cards my T430 Lenovo Thinkpad can take in the SD card reader, Mini, Micro ETC. I did insert a Mini SD card the other day and it worked fine. But what about a Micro(small) SD card. Does anyone know?
Thanks:
Rich

You'll need a microSD-to-SD adapter.
