T430 screen

#1 Post by krissyneillie1 » Sun Mar 24, 2019 3:58 pm

hello, just joined what looks like a fabulous forum, i bought a t430 a few weeks ago and i absolutely love it, has to be one of the best pieces of tech i have bought in a long time, its running fantastic with 16gb of ram and an SSD, the i5 3210m works perfect and with the fan cleaned out and new thermal paste temps are sitting where they should be, the only gripe i have with this is the awful screen which i have noticed theres many discussions on but i cant find a definitive answer or supplier for a screen upgrade, i have read stories of flickering, power consumption and problems.

All im looking for is something that is much better than the original horrible screen, something which is completely trouble free

can someone point me in the direction of what i need in regards to part numbers for a 1600x900 display, i believe i also need a cable?, ive also seen items on ebay UK which state you will get a screen from a random manufacturer and most of them say they will come with 2 or 3 dead pixels which is "normal"

i would love to have the highest possible quality but reading some of the issues i would rather have something that i know will be reliable

Many Thanks

I would highly suggest you to read this website for the information that would you need for the display panels, and this too if you are additionally interested in modifications that are difficult, but 'rewarding'.

A display cable? That is if you do not have a 1600x900 display panel in the first place; I don't think that you would need a different display cable to drive the same resolution that your current (if it is 1600x900) display panel needs.

Nope, you'll need the new display cable. The 768p one will show green lines on a 900p display.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

I suppose that my phrasing was horrid as per usual... but that was not what I actually meant.

What I meant is that, if he already has a 1600x900 panel in his T430, he should theoretically be able to swap it out for another compatible 1600x900 panel without needing to replace the display cable with something else that can handle that specific resolution.

i have the 1366 x 768 so its not 1600 x 900 unfortunately, all i really want is to take this screen out and fit something without messing around, do i need a cable to install the 1600 x 900?, is that the HD+ screen?, thanks for the links i will have a look, most links ive read are mostly american though and sourcing those parts seems to be slightly more difficult

Well I did it on a T420 but they are very similar machines and the HD+ panel came up with green lines on every other horizontal line.

Ive heard the best one you can get for a T430 without major mods is a gloosy panel from an Alienware M14X R2....though I forget exactly which panel.
