T440p screen will not go back up

#1 Post by finn49 » Tue Apr 09, 2019 11:34 am

Hello,

I am trying to replace the screen on my T440p but I'm having some issues. I used a card to help me slowly pop off the bezels and that went fine. Then I unscrewed the four screws required, unplugged the cable and removed the old screen. Then I plugged the new one in and screwed it in. However, now for some reason I cannot move the screen upwards at all (i.e. it's 180 degrees now and I want to make it 90 or whatever). I don't know why this is happening and I don't want to force it. Here are some pictures: https://imgur.com/a/0l5U1Te

Could someone please help me figure out what I've done wrong here?

Thanks.

Have you checked the T440p HMM (manual)?
Did you unscrew the hinges by mistake?
Was the battery removed before you began?
My T440p can even go to ca. 190 degrees, try that and then carefully try to bring it back up.

I haven't checked the manual, no. I don't know what I'd look for.
Look at the pictures, they're screwed in at the bottom but not at the top in the last picture (I took the screen out and it's still out now). Yes I removed the battery. It's actually probably more at 190 now and it won't move up or down.

It just randomly went back up... Not sure exactly why but I'm happy about it lol. Although, I've just realised that two of the small clips on the bezel have snapped off. Do you think it's worth trying to glue them back or should I just leave it? https://imgur.com/a/wKxyXDr

Leave them snapped off. 99.9% guarantee that they will snap right off the minute you glue them back on.
Thinkpad4by3's Law of the Universe.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

Glued them back on and I don't know if they stayed there but it seems pretty flush so it all worked.
