T440p Batteries

#1 Post by Dongers » Tue May 28, 2019 11:13 am

So, looking at next TP purchase, new daily driver to replace my still perfectly functional/serviceable X230 (Yes, I have the TP bug too) and I'm looking at the T440p

Had a T440 when was at last company and hated it (12Gb RAM max, Trackpad (ugh), swollen main battery (yes, i know that's really dangerous!))...not very upgrade-able tbf.

But the T440p looks like a very different beast, and as mod-able (almost) as a T420 or T430.

One question though, and I know I'm probably inviting flames by asking a somewhat sacrilegious question but....Aftermarket batteries...? Do they work or not..?

Know that the **30 Series has the EC mods from Hamish Coleman, but have seen 3rd Party batteries on fleabay and amazon for T440p and not sure how they can work without an EC Mod..?

Any ideas..?

Cheers

By now the aftermarket battery manufacturers mimic the Lenovo chip. They will work.
lenovo T420 i7 2670qm 16GB QHD + eGPU GTX 960
lenovo T430s i5 3230m 16GB QHD w/ optimus(RIP), lenovo T430 i5 3320m 8GB FHD, lenovo T500 P9700 8GB WUXGA(LED) w/ switchable graphics
Enable 2 finger scroll on old Synaptics touchpads with registry.

Yes, in general the aftermarket batteries are now compatible with the Thinkpad chip requirements. However, they are still mostly using junk cells. I've never had one last more than 6 months and many are worthless right out of the box!
