The t430 is a little dated and I would like to upgrade to a more powerful unit (with quad core processor) but I tried the T440p and I just hate the smooth touchpad with no lower buttons. Even with sensitivity maxed out its seems far inferior to the T430 stock pad.
Question- If I want something similar to the T430 touchpad but a newer more powerful unit- which ones would it be?
lenovo T430s i5 3230m 16GB QHD w/ optimus(RIP), lenovo T430 i5 3320m 8GB FHD, lenovo T500 P9700 8GB WUXGA(LED) w/ switchable graphics

A T430 was my first Thinkpad, so it is the standard by which I judge others. I find the keyboard (the much-maligned Chiclet) to be fine, though I prefer the look of the older TP keyboards. Perhaps if I had started with an older machine, I would like the T430 keyboard less.
By the same token, I have no complaints about the touchpad, though I usually use a mouse, or failing that the joystick (or whatever it is called). That goes for all my TPs.
So I have always been slightly bemused by the violent reaction of some people to the Tx30 series keyboards (and the touchpads). As a consequence, I didn't pay too much attention to what people were saying about the so-called "clunkpad".
Note the word "didn't"!
I have somehow come into the possession of a T540p. (Acquiring Thinkpads is something that seems to happen to me more by accident than by a conscious effort of will.) And I now know about clunkpads.
Good grief!!! What on earth were Lenovo thinking when they produced this terrible contraption? It's by far the worst thing I have ever encountered on any personal computer. And my first PC was an Apple II purchased in 1982, so I have seen a few.
The T540p arrived yesterday. It's in good condition, and aside from looking rather bland it's an impressive machine - except for the the expletives deleted touchpad! I love the backlit keyboard, and despite quite low specs it seems quicker than my better specc'd W530. I prefer a numeric keypad, so that's a plus, and all in all I think I will keep it.
But that clunkpad! It's the Ford Edsel of computing. Really, really, really, horrible.
