T440P (2013-14) options ?

#1 Post by 123434 » Mon Aug 26, 2019 6:44 am

Hello
What T440p(2013-14) models have a more energy consuming GeForce GT 730M ?
How to know it ? Is a screen resolution a clear indicator ?
  • Yes\No CPU: i5 to i7.
  • Yes\No GPU: Integrated 4600 or GeForce GT 730M.
  • Yes\No 3x screen options: 1366x768, 1600x900, 1920x1080.
  • Yes\No Webcam.
  • Yes\No GPS sim card.
  • Yes\No Wifi: Intel 7260-AC or 7260-N.
  • Yes\No Keyboard light.
  • Yes\No 6-cell or 9-cell battery pack.
  • (Yes\No Don't know if DVD-drive optional ?)
What would be the TYPE#=MTM code for this specific T440P*: ?
*I ordered it but not yet arrived. So I can't see the type code yet.
CPU= Intel i5-4300M.
Resolution= 1366x768.
RAM= 4GB.
HDD= 500 GB HDD.
+GPS.
+Webcam.
+DVD.
+No light keyboard.

I was looking and bought a T440P as a newer small and lower energy consuming night time laptop which downloads huge files from internet.

Used so be careful investing money in it

Yes\No CPU: i5 to i7. I have both. I like my i7 X1 but I have an i5 X230 that works very well. May not be worth it.

Yes\No GPU: Integrated 4600 or GeForce GT 730M. I use Intel Integrated Graphics. Cooler, workable, and more upgradeable over time. I had my fling with nVidia and much prefer Intel Take what the used computer has.

Yes\No 3x screen options: 1366x768, 1600x900, 1920x1080. 1920x1080 with Windows 10 scaling is very good. My spare X230 is 1366x768 and I had to do a lot of scrolling on that machine.

Yes\No Webcam. Yes

Yes\No GPS sim card. Only if your ISP supports this. I have an external USB Internet stick that works on my spare X230 and on my X1. Not tied to what is in the machine

Yes\No Wifi: Intel 7260-AC or 7260-N. AC is the only way to fly as speeds will continue to increase. Intel updated my 7260-AC to an Intel 8260-AC just by updating the driver.

Yes\No Keyboard light. Yes. would not be without.

Yes\No 6-cell or 9-cell battery pack. 9-cell if it is not too large. Lots of extra working life

(Yes\No Don't know if DVD-drive optional ?) Not really necessary anymore. I have a Lenovo USB DVD drive for the few times I need it. I do not carry it around

I will use the T440P to night download these modern "Download Only" PC-games.
Which are >60 GB and increasing every year. :eek:

T440P cost about 200$.
T450 and X250 cost around 300$+ and up.

Big downloads are a function of your ISP more than the computer.

If I have a really big download from a fast network, or a really large PC to PC transfer inside my network, I use wired Ethernet.

Wireless AC does big downloads over the internet because it is faster overall than the internet download speed I get.

See T440p PSREF here: http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad_T440p with 177 MTMs.
I got a top-spec T440p 20AN006CUS, upgraded it from 4 to 16GB RAM, from no HDD TO 250GB SSD, from i5-4300M to i7-4702MQ, and from DVD-drive to Ultrabay-adapter with 500GB SSD.
Altogether for a total of less than $250 (in USA, before I moved to Ireland).
Lovely day for a Guinness! (the Real Black Stuff). And pigs CAN fly!
