T440p erroneous power supply error

#1 Post by Matt4495 » Sat Aug 31, 2019 12:13 pm

I was never that active here but have not been on here much less into computers these last few years. Well, back to my issue. No matter what CPU I install I keep getting the "Incorrect AC Adapter is Attached" error on both Windows 10 and Windows 7, with multiple CPUs (an i7-4910mq and an i7-4600m), 2 different system boards, and 3 different power supplies (2x 230w and 1x 120w). My knowledge is very much outdated as I don't know much about recent systems, have stayed pre-UEFI to this point, and have no clue what would be causing it, have pulled the CMOS battery and let it sit overnight on one of the system boards with both the i7-4910mq and i7-4600m with no joy. Is there some simple trick I am missing to get it to charge using the AC adapter when the system is on?
I have a 14in 3840x2160 screen (LG lp140ud1-spd1) that has already been modded in and works great. I was not expecting something in the UEFI related to the CPU to be what trips me up. Thanks for the help.

Are those non-Lenovo chargers?
You need at least a 20V/90W genuine Lenovo charger, either an older one with the round barrel plug plus round-to-square adapter,
or a newer one already with a square adapter.
If you have changed so many parts around, did you also change the DC-IN socket unit?
Is the pin in there bent, loose or even missing?
Have you checked Power settings if you are perhaps in Airplane/Flight Mode?
If so, change the settings from ON to OFF, or v.v. and try again.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)

The chargers are all official Lenovo. I bought the replacement system board as a complete sub frame so both boards have there own DC-IN sockets. I have tried switching the airplane/flight mode in power manager a few times with both system boards with it not making a difference.

I did not, I assume they are just a two contact thing for power and ground, correct? Will check with a multimeter when I get home.

They are actually three-contact sockets, positive/negative/pin-sensor for charger wattage.

Ok, I noticed the 5 pin board connector and figured out the 2 ground and positive voltage pins are connected, needless complexity.

I got a W540 in the post today and it came with a 135w adapter that works correctly with the W540 and the T440p I thought I was having issues with. The other 3 adapters (a 120w and 2x230w) do not work with either system. I am very perplexed by this.
