Hello All
I just got hands on my old T450s machine (20BWS01S01) that originally has 14" touch FHD screen.
As long as the cover lid is cracked, it might be a good opportunity to also replace the screen with some nice FHD IPS mat one. I don't need touch functionality and prefer better colors. The mat one should be (I think) also better protected by not touching the keyboard.
Does anyone have any idea if this is doable in a reasonable way? I mean, I can imagine I will need different lid cover, new front screen frame and sticker probably. And the screen itself of course.
Would that be all to successfuly do the job?
best regards
Maciej

Re: T450s - change from FHD touch screen to mat IPS one
Welcome to the club.
You do indeed need a different lid.
Possibly also a different webcam, webcam cable and LCD/eDP cable.
For a non-touch screen the IPS FHD 04X5916 from LGD is not bad.
But there is a better Innolux screen available (see further down).
Or go wild and see if the T460s WQHD screen fits (which would need a WQHD LCD-cable).
Please be aware that the T450s has an LCD-whitelist in the BIOS.
If you run Linux, no problem, but under Windows your brightness control would not work, unless you get an official Lenovo-approved LCD.
EITHER you modify the EDID to get the non-Lenovo LCD working.
Check Google with: Andries Koopman EDID to find a PDF named: Check the EEPROM chip on your screen
Instructions in there.
OR you modify the laptop's BIOS to get that LCD-whitelist removed.
See this, together with an Innolux screen recommendation.
(This Innolux N140HCE-EN1 REV. C2 also fits in a T440/p/s.)

Re: T450s - change from FHD touch screen to mat IPS one
Hi
Thank you for your prompt response!
I don't think the whole operation will be reasonable any way. It's my old work machine, heavily used in business trips for almost 5 years. You can imagine how such a machine looks like
The corners are much more aerodynamic
Even taking into consideration it's i7 with 12GB of RAM and 512GB SSD, it's not worth it. I will only find the lid cover that is not cracked and replace it.
It can be more reasonable for a small private laptop will be modifying to FHD my x230 which is also i7 with 8GB of RAM and is not showing any wear on it.
One more time thank you!
