T410 core i5 m520 vs t430 Core i3-3120M 2.5GHz worth changing?
T410 core i5 m520 vs t430 Core i3-3120M 2.5GHz worth changing?
My daily driver t410 with core i5 m520 1280x800 is working fine, but I have the possibility to get t430i 1900x900 and ,as some say the worst cpu Core i3-3120M 2.5GHz for cheap as borscht. Is the difference between these two as small as people on the net say, that buying t430i is pointless? Is core i5 m520 a lot better than i3-3120M 2.5GHz? Lcd is my favourate advantage so I'm still thinking of buying t430i but can't find legitimate info about it.

Depends on what you mean dirt cheap but....radiator wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 2:51 pmMy daily driver t410 with core i5 m520 1280x800 is working fine, but I have the possibility to get t430i 1900x900 and ,as some say the worst cpu Core i3-3120M 2.5GHz for cheap as borscht. i3 is about 15% faster in synthetic benchmarks and I'd say likely faster in real life given Ivy Bridge really is much better than Nehalem architecture.
The T430 will also be SIGNIFICANTLY better on battery life, especially with an i3.
If you find it too slow, there is always the upgrade path to an i7 or a Quad core i7....and from experience I can tell you both are incredibly fast CPUs.
1600x900 is much better than 1280x800, likely the 900p screen will be a tad better, can always upgrade to an Alienware panel for superior colors if you don't mind glossy. Even if it is 16:9, there are just so many extra pixels.
In my opinion, if you can snag it for the 100$ USD to maybe 150$ depending on the other specs like RAM and storage.

The efficiency of two screens equally sized with equal numbers if pixels are equal. The time spent by a 4:3 user complaining about 16:9 is proportional to the inefficiency working with a 16:9 display, therefore the amount of useful work extracted is equal.

T430i is basically a T430 but with slower CPUs. To be honest an Ivy Bridge i3 is no slouch either, and since it's a socketed CPU, you can easily upgrade to a dual-core i5/i7 or ever a quad-core i7.
The T430 also has native USB 3.0 ports, more capable built-in graphics, and 16GB max RAM.

If you can tolerate the 6-row keyboard, T430 is a more usable machine.

Doesn't matter if you 7-row swap it.

Not everyone is up for BIOS mods and the like.

Changing from polish zloty to USA dollar it gonna cost about 60$ without power supply, hdd and battery. The brand battery (new replacement) I have from my t410 so as AC adapter and 240ssd. The keyboard (german) is equipped with localization stickers.Thinkpad4by3 wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 3:14 pmDepends on what you mean dirt cheap but....radiator wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 2:51 pmMy daily driver t410 with core i5 m520 1280x800 is working fine, but I have the possibility to get t430i 1900x900 and ,as some say the worst cpu Core i3-3120M 2.5GHz for cheap as borscht. SO guys what is your advice? buy it or seek for sth stronger. My needs internet, office stuff and low noise from laptop, and higher res.

Careful, some batteries from earlier T series won't work with later models (notwithstanding the fact that they physically will fit). Double check the T410 battery will work in the T430.

It will fit, it will not work without an EC mod. If this is something that interests you...DO NOT UPDATE THE BIOS ON YOUR T430.
EDIT: I believe it will discharge just fine in the T430....it will refuse to charge the battery.

Re: T410 core i5 m520 vs t430 Core i3-3120M 2.5GHz worth changing?
Thx guys for replays, but will t430i be significantly faster than t410? or they are going to stand on the same level of performance
?
?
Re: T410 core i5 m520 vs t430 Core i3-3120M 2.5GHz worth changing?
The short answer is "yes it will be faster". The rest depends on what you actually use the system for.
